Sonic Boom

Hailed as “Rio Grande Valley’s one and only video game tribute band,” Sonic Boom’s renditions has its roots in Thrash, Progressive, djent Metal and early metal traditions of American music.  SONIC BOOM has been bringing their video game, tv & movie themes tribute music to audiences in South Texas since 2016. 

The band’s captivating, high-energy performances transport audiences back in time as SONIC BOOM blends musicianship, virtuosity, creativity and classic video game, TV, movie music tradition.

It’s a “barrel of musical ear candy” in the words of one eloquent fan as SONIC BOOM keeps them coming back for more.

Rock/Metal instruments (7 & 8 String Guitars, 5 String Basses and Pearl Masters Drum set) with traditional video visuals of video games, TV, and movies, this is a band that knows how to entertain. Audience members have described SONIC BOOM as “excellent musicianship combined with entertaining showmanship.” 

So what is SONIC BOOM?  They cobbled their name together from brainstorming many retro video games and Street Fighter’s Guile weapon (pronounced “SONIC BOOM”) and dubbed themselves SONIC BOOM to pay homage to the classic video game Street Fighter.   SONIC BOOM formed when like-minded musicians networked to find each other and decided to form a video game – tv – movie tribute band.

The band draws its repertoire from nearly 30 years of video game, tv, and movie musical history, true to the music from the 1980s, 1990’s and 2000’s. Fans appreciate what they’ve called a “clever and eclectic repertoire that patrons of all ages can enjoy!”

Over the past two years, SONIC BOOM has performed at many conventions and clubs in the Rio Grande Valley Texas. The band has a few festivals they can count under their belt, including the ComicCon, Gamer’s Expo, RGV MiniCon, Pokefest, and Cine El Rey.

Crowds enjoy the “classic retro video game, tv, and movie themes ala Metal style.” One of the highest compliments they receive is that they are asked to return to play again.
